Equality

I firmly believe that we become stronger as a state when we treat every person with dignity and respect. It is the government’s responsibility to ensure equality for every citizen, including, but not limited to, protecting individual freedoms, supporting human rights, encouraging diversity, and providing honest equal opportunity for all. While great strides have been made over the years, many forms of discrimination still exist and we must continue to fight these injustices at every turn.

The higher the participation rates in our democratic process, the more representative the legislature becomes. Unfortunately, the current majority party has made a concerted effort to suppress the turnout of targeted groups and impede our constitutionally provided citizen initiative powers. This needs to be stopped.

As your State Senator, I will work to:

  • Protect the individual freedoms and rights of Arizona citizens

  • Respect everyone’s fundamental human rights regardless of race, religion, age, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identification or economic status

  • Vote for the Equal Rights Amendment to the United States Constitution

  • Encourage voter participation

  • Reverse voter suppression laws such as voter ID

  • Reduce the influence of dark money in our elections

  • Remove obstacles to citizen initiatives
